Dashi

In the Gion Festival celebrated every July in Kyoto, the floats that are the main feature of the ceremonial processions are divided into two main types, “mountain” (yama) and “halberd” (hoko), and the generic term for a festival float, dashi, is written with the characters for “mountain” and “cart.”
