Miyabi・Hinabi

In the Heian period, “miyabi” and “hinabi” already coexisted. Miyabi” is a word derived from “Miyabi” and “Miyako-buri,” meaning “courtly” or “capitally,” and refers to urbanistic modern urbanism, while “hinabi” is a word derived from “hinabi,” meaning “country,” but this was considered to be more elegant. The reason why wabi-cha became more like soan (hermitage) and why people favored simple tailoring was because of the coexistence of “hinabi” with “miyabi.
However, this is somewhat different from the rural return to the countryside and the rural city concept that was popular in modern Europe and the United States. It is not an attempt to promote hinabi in an entire region or area, nor to reconstruct it with “modernity,” but rather to preserve hinabi in a sense fo Suki, as if something is being squeezed out of something.
