Japanese people applied their own unique reading system to kanji as imported characters and created original Japanese characters from them. Then, they softened and changed the way they wrote waka poems with these Japanese characters. This was the birth of “Wayo no Sho” (Japanese calligraphy). In contrast to the standard style of writing, in which kanji characters are written in a proper manner, the Japanese style of writing in the Gyosho style, in which kanji characters are scrapped, was devised, and cursive writing, in which cursive kana is the main form of writing, came to be written.
